Home Additions

Room additions are a great solution for providing additional space to your home. Room addition costs are also comparatively low compared to selling your existing home and moving to a new and larger home. Room additions also offer the opportunity to customize your living space. For example, you can elect to add a family room addition or bedroom, bump out your kitchen, or even build a garage addition with overhead living space.

Things to consider when you are thinking of adding on to your home:

• How long will I be here? If you only intend to be staying in your existing home for a few months or years, then you need to consider whether you will actually get the full benefit from the proposed addition and if it will be worth the disruption, effort and cost.
• Your specific needs and wants for the room, for example- do you need more storage space? Do you need more room for your family to spread out and feel comfortable?
• Realize that you are building a mini- house. A room addition involves all of the same things that you find in new home construction: foundation, footers, framing, zoning, permitting, HVAC, flooring, plumbing, electrical, new windows, etc. The list goes on and on. Even if you are building a great room or living room (i.e., a room addition without services such as plumbing), you’ve still got other services that you cannot avoid (electrical, heating, cooling, and more).
